How I Started My Career in Cruise Ship Speaking

The year was 2005 and I was slowly murdering myself.

Not literally of course, but it felt that way. I was existing in severe
hotel rooms, piercing airports, and lackluster conference rooms. This is what
nearly all professional speakers judge "successful".

Hah! It was making me insane.

I cherished giving my message in front of an audience of course. Whether presenting or performing there is still nothing more stimulating than stepping onto a stage with a mic in your hand and creating
an impressive shared experience.

However spending your life going after events every time, endlessly advertising to event planners, getting trapped in airports and in traffic,
and stressing out on the way to the site? I'd had sufficient of that.

Yes, I was creating a great living, but I was doing waaaay too hard to enjoy it. Then I discovered a professional speaking market that factually gave
me my existence back... cruise ships!

Cruise Ships Gave Me My Life Back

In the last few years my wife and I have been able to take over 100
cruises, to foreign destinations all over the world, more often than not operating
merely 3 hours a week, and receiving big amount to perform it.

We have travelled for free to:
o The Caribbean
o The Mediterranean
o Every island in Hawaii
o Tahiti, Moorea, and Bora
Bora
o Alaska and the Inside
Passage
o Brazil
o Singapore
o Thailand
o England
o Ireland
o France
o Belgium
o Norway
o Denmark
o Bermuda
o Jamaica
o Belize
o Columbia
o The Bahamas
o Both coasts of Mexico
o All over Central and South
America
o Costa Rica
o The Panama Canal
o Australia and New Zealand
o Italy
o Spain
o Turkey
o Monaco
o The Greek Isles
o And many more out of the ordinary
destinations.

All that journey and exploit would have normally cost us hundreds
of thousands of dollars, however as a guest of the cruise lines we've done
it all for free.

Not only that, but the 3 hours of "work" I trade for this astounding

standard of living are some of the most fun and gratifying experiences I've
ever had in my existence. Why labor very hard going after the same speaking
markets all and sundry does when cruise ships offer hanging fruit?

Real Success = Freedom

I didn't see that this lifestyle was even achievable or I would have done
it years ago. My wife Suzy and I have been performing and speakingon cruise ships for years now and have taken over 100 voyages.

Before I started in this career I used to live in Los Angeles being
"successful". Which in this career means flying anywhere,
staying in hotel rooms, and most of the time on the telephone and the email with
clients, trying to book one engagement after the other.

Be watchful what you request for in this career. You become doing well,
and then you become extraordinarily hard-working, and then you begin to lose the quality
of your life. That circumstance didn't make sense to me.

So I made a enormous modification. I opted to create life an exhilarating adventure
and trek the world, have other people pay for it, and toil two or
three hours a week.

I'm in fact no more than contracted for two hours a week as a guest performer,
however I desire to throw in that extra third hour as an enrichment lecturer
since I be able to make more from speaking in that third hour than I do
from performing in the first two!

My First Booking

So what happened was, I got booked on my first cruise exactly as a
guest entertainer. I went through an agent rather than submitting
directly to the cruise line. Representatives can be beneficial for entertainers, but
speakers should really contract with the cruise lines directly.

That first cruise ship engagement was just about four years ago now and seems
like a distant memory.
